Anakena: The Label Made of Lava

Australian producer, Accolade wines, tasked DAf with creating new label designs for their Chilean-made wine range, Anakena, while also developing new storytelling and naming.

Anakena’s roots are deeply connected to indigenous Chilean communities, while the wine’s volcanic terroir gives it a unique sense of origin. DAf focused on these characteristics, designing new labels that lived up to Anakena’s magmatic origin, whilst refining the wine’s brand story.

For Anakena’s hero product, Birdman, we used a red and gold color palette evocative of lava; and layers of bright red rongorongo glyphs from Easter Island, from where the wine’s name originates. Meanwhile, our design for Nuna, from the Quechua word for spirit, goes much darker, bringing in black igneous stone underneath a layer of bright red, lightning-esque bolts of energy.
