These product designs were part of the 7 Deadly Sins logo suite and packaging design project at Ball State University. The theme selected was city nightlife and nocturnal animals that represent them. The 7 Deadly Sins were personified through shadow like silhouettes since sin alludes to themes of the night and mischief.
7 Logos were originally designed before picking three that fit cohesively within an umbrella company. The goal was to provide self-care items to promote on-the-whim nightlife activities like dying your hair, getting a tattoo, or even bedroom fun. All packages have a cityscape pattern and dark blue background to resemble the night and keep all the packages cohesive in style. In addition, each logo design has a ‘glow’ neon effect to replicate the neon signs that light up the path in the city.
The Envy package design was inspired by generic supermarket hair-dye packaging. The goal was to elevate it a bit more with some additional imagery. For example, a street light was incorporated with the phrase “Bleach it. Dye it. Envy it.” in its light to convey another nightlife feature in design besides the cityscape. Lastly, the green theme was used after the phrase “Green with envy” and thus an electric Seafoam green color was selected to represent this phrase.
The Wrath label design was designed to keep simple and straight forward with its limited space on the container. As other tattoo balms label designs are kept down their typography, it was best suited for the tattoo balm to have clear communication between its ingredients, directions, and warning labels. Lastly, its red theme was used to represent the stereotyping of tattoos with anger and the red from itching a healing tattoo.
The Lust package design added stars and a condom neon sign to it to further pursue the idea of nightlife characteristics. Glow-In-The-Dark condoms were selected for this project, rather than regular condoms to push the nightclub/rave scene of nightlife. Lastly, its pink theme was used to convey a playful innocence and the color’s history with romance and love.
