Nepenthe produces premium wines from varieties that thrive in Australia’s premier cool climate wine region of the Adelaide Hills.

Being an early pioneer in establishing vineyards in the Adelaide Hills, Nepenthe has always been at the forefront of innovation.

The Adelaide Hills is a fabulously inspiring landscape; a rolling tapestry of hills, gully’s, gum trees, vines, and pasture. Stretching 70 kilometres, at an altitude of 400m to 600m. The Hills meander through the Mt Lofty ranges, bordered by the Barossa Valley to the north and McLaren Vale to the south. There is an amazing range of micro-climates within the Hills, all with varying aspects, altitudes, slopes and soils.

Each vineyard offers a different terroir, producing grapes with distinctly unique flavour profiles. As their most premium offering, Apex needed to be the pinnacle of the Nepenthe portfolio. An opportunity for winemaker James Evers to push flavour profiles of Adelaide Hills wines.

They say the best wines are made in the vineyard and the Adelaide Hills can offer some of Australia’s most rewarding wines under extremely challenging growing seasons and environments. A tension of human control versus the mercy of the terroir.

Apex captures the technicalities of this winemaking process from identifying the optimal site to the recording of the realities of the season – a tension of practical data and luxury print finishing. A documentation of the wine and season for years to come as these wines can be enjoyed and vintages compared for years to come.
