Winter idyll of socializing with Rum Punch and Hot Gin
On cold winter days, there is nothing better than company with a warm drink that warms the soul and body. In the world of cocktails, two drinks hold a special place in the hearts of many – rum punch and boiled gin. These hot beverages are not only delicious, but also part of the rich history and culture of beverages.
Hot Gin and Rum throughout history
The history of brewed rum, or better known as Grog, dates back to 1655, when Vice Admiral William Penn Sr. conquered Jamaica during Oliver Cromwell’s “West Indies” campaign as part of the Anglo-Spanish War. One of the biggest discoveries of that campaign is Jamaican rum.
Admiral Edward Vernon solved the problem of water or beer spoiling during long voyages by introducing Grog. In addition to the already familiar dose of rum and water, sailors could add sugar and lime juice for a better taste. The name itself came from Vernon’s nickname “Old Grog” because of the waterproof grogram cloak he wore. Grogram is a fabric made from a combination of silk, mohair and wool.
Boiled or hot gin began to be drunk in the 18th century at “London’s Frost Fairs” or winter fairs that were full of activities such as tented vendors, ice rinks and other activities that took place on the frozen River Thames in London.
Hot gin with the addition of sugar was heated in bars at the very beginning with the help of a “loggerhead” tool, that is, long iron rods with a wooden handle that would be heated on fire, then immersed in the drink to be heated.
Packaging design of the products “Rum Punch” and “Kuhani Gin”
The Spread agency was entrusted with the task of designing the packaging of “Rum Punch” and “Cooked Gin” drinks, which are produced in cooperation with the winery of the Šoškić family from the Plešivica area, which has known wine production since the beginning of the 90s of the 20th century. Ideally balanced mixtures of these two products represent a relaxed gathering with family and friends with drinks that only need to be heated and are ready for consumption on cold winter days.
Collaboration with the well-known expert Hrvoje Rihtarić resulted in a balance of ingredients that suit everyone’s palate.
Rum Punch brings the warmth and flavors of Advent fairs directly into users’ homes. Simple preparation and rich taste of spiced rum, exotic fruits and aromatic spices are created to warm the hearts and souls of consumers. Boiled Gin as a warm winter version of every gin lover’s favorite drink is an indispensable part of winter socializing. Enriched with warm spices and aromas of the winter magic of cinnamon, anise, sage and apple, it brings a perfect blend of tradition and innovation.
The packaging design of the Rum Punch drink is characterized by a pleasant and warm red color in a gradient with a relevant representation of the atmosphere of drinking a hot drink by a campfire and the winter idyll of a log cabin in the snow.
The packaging of the Kuhani Gin drink is wrapped in an icy blue color of ice in accordance with the sharp, astringent and refreshing character of gin with an illustration of a lady on the mountain next to a wooden hut holding an oversized bottle of gin in a warm red note like the warmth that a sip of this drink brings.
The simplicity of the design derives from the identity of the product as such, its core features and effect for each user in the form of a link between the winter mood, warm atmosphere and flavor elements rich in winter spices.
