Miyako – Umami-flavored Green Iced Tea Beverage

Miyako is a refreshing, cold green iced tea beverage, far from your typical iced tea. It is available in four strong umami flavours, and it’s specifically crafted for contemporary, health-conscious consumers. It’s targeted particularly at Gen Z and Millennials who prioritize wellness but crave something with character and depth.

The core concept is to bring together tradition and modernity in a clean, confident way. Miyako is rooted in Japanese tea culture, but the design is sleek, reflecting an urban, modern lifestyle. The visual identity is minimalistic and contrasting, which gives the tea a fresh, cool personality without overcomplicating it.

For this concept to be achieved, the chosen color palette for the packaging is bold, highly contrasting, reflecting the bold umami flavours, while the typography is strong and structured. This gives the product a premium feel while making it deeply recognizable on a shelf.

The design is built in Adobe Illustrator, using clean geometry, intentional negative space, and precise typography, and the presentation visuals are refined with the help of Adobe Photoshop. The logo and patterns were designed to be scalable and repeatable, ensuring consistency across cans, labels, and collateral.

What makes this packaging design unique:

  • Bold minimalism: While many green tea brands go soft and delicate, Miyako stands out through a confident, minimal design, simultaneously bold and calm.
  • Umami personality: The design visually suggests the richness and depth of the umami flavors through bold typography and contrast.
  • Modern-traditional balance: The packaging connects the Japanese tea heritage with a modern, almost urban aesthetic.
  • Targeted for a younger audience: The visual style was intentionally chosen to resonate with Gen Z and Millennials, positioning the tea brand not just as traditional, but as cool and urban.

The final design gives Miyako a distinctive shelf presence: it doesn’t disappear among generic iced teas, and it signals quality, health, and modern taste. The packaging makes the drink feel premium, but still accessible.
