Contramestre

Contra-Mestre Gin is an Atlantic-inspired gin rooted in the Ocean and the unique identity of Portugal’s western coast. Its essence is born from the distillation of Atlantic seaweed sourced from this region, turning the product into a liquid expression of territory, sea and ecosystem.

The bottle design was conceived as a tribute to the maritime universe — the beaches, cliffs and coastal communities of the Oeste region, an area with strong geological character, currently recognized as the Oeste Geopark. The name Contra-Mestre, a key figure in maritime life, symbolizes leadership, knowledge and authority at sea, reflecting the character of the gin itself.

The bottle features a strong sensory dimension. The embossed glass evokes the movement of waves and the hull of a ship, creating a tactile experience that reinforces the connection to the ocean. A 360° screen print composed of seaweed illustrations wraps around the bottle, turning the main botanical ingredient into a central and defining visual element.

Nautical-inspired lettering, a metallic seal with maritime iconography and a natural cork stopper with activated charcoal reinforce the product’s Portuguese identity and its connection to tradition, territory and material awareness.

The result is a packaging with a strong presence and clear identity, conceived not only as a container, but as a narrative object that translates the Atlantic spirit of Portugal’s western coast into a contemporary visual and tactile language.
