La Palina – The 1948

La Palina is a heritage cigar brand founded in the late 1800s, known for its early role in shaping cigar culture before disappearing for decades and later being thoughtfully revived. Its modern chapter is defined by restraint, craftsmanship, and a respect for history without nostalgia. That philosophy carries directly into The 1948, a commemorative release created to honor Chairman William C. Paley’s seventy-fifth birthday, marking a diamond anniversary rooted in time, experience, and legacy.

The design and packaging of The 1948 were led by Todd Neilson of Considerate Agency, a long-standing creative partner of La Palina. The project began with hand-drawn illustrations, establishing a tactile, human foundation before moving into final production. A diamond-shaped band subtly references the diamond anniversary and is finished with embossing and gold foil, adding depth without excess. Hidden messages beneath the band reward closer inspection, reinforcing the idea that meaning reveals itself over time. The cedar box features gold pressed into the lid, while the system remains cohesive across flexographic printed labels produced in Florida and screen-printed boxes made in Nicaragua. Each band and box was designed to stand on its own while working inside a box, on a retail shelf, and online, resulting in a design that feels earned, personal, and quietly confident.
