CASAHANA – Nanyang Savoury Cookies

CASAHANA – Nanyang Savoury Cookies

My packaging concept for CASAHANA’s new savory cookie range is inspired by the idea of bringing Malaysian heritage into a modern everyday snack experience. The goal of the design is to balance nostalgia and innovation, so the packaging feels warm and familiar to older generations while still attractive and exciting to younger consumers, especially Gen Z who value authenticity, storytelling, and emotional connection.

To achieve this, I developed a concept based on the feeling of traditional Malaysian festive snacks, combined with a clean and modern layout that makes the product suitable for daily snacking, not only during celebrations. The structure of the packaging focuses on convenience and accessibility, allowing the cookies to be opened easily and resealed, making it suitable for grab-and-go use, one-handed use, and for users with limited hand mobility. This supports the idea of inclusive design, ensuring that people of different ages and abilities can enjoy the product comfortably.

To strengthen the emotional connection with consumers, I created a chubby and friendly mascot character as part of the packaging identity. The mascot represents the joy of eating and the comfort of traditional food, making the product more memorable and approachable. A rounded and cute character naturally gives a feeling of warmth, happiness, and satisfaction, which fits the idea of cookies as a comforting snack. This mascot also helps the product stand out on the shelf and makes the brand easier to recognize, especially for younger audiences who are drawn to playful and character-driven packaging. The character can also be adapted across different flavors, creating a consistent but flexible visual system for the whole savory cookie range.

Each flavor is visually connected to Malaysian and Nanyang heritage through ingredients and colors. For example, Cereal prawn cookies is represented with warm nanyang green tones, chili crab cookie uses warm and spicy colors, satay cookie uses bold and vibrant hues and also curry fish head cookies was used blue to represent fish flavour. These elements help communicate the authenticity of the flavors while keeping the design lively and modern.

The overall visual style follows CASAHANA’s brand identity by keeping a warm, trustworthy, and family-friendly tone, while adding a fresh and youthful twist to match the new savory cookie line. The packaging aims to position the product as a premium but comforting snack that people can enjoy anytime, not only during festive seasons. Through the combination of heritage storytelling, modern structure, inclusive usability, and a memorable mascot character, the design supports CASAHANA’s promise:
“Savour Malaysia’s heritage in every bite.”
