This project focuses on Casahana’s launch of a new line of savoury cookies, featuring a series of packaging designs aimed at Gen Z consumers in Malaysia and Singapore. The concept draws inspiration from nostalgic Nanyang culture, referencing classic trays and traditional packaging styles commonly found in old kopitiams and local markets. The main container is designed as a tray made from bamboo sticks, highlighting the craftsmanship and authenticity of traditional materials while evoking the warm, familiar feeling of Nanyang food culture.
The design is paired with a playful colour palette inspired by the soft yet vibrant tones of Nyonya culture, reflecting the Peranakan heritage closely connected to Nanyang traditions. Pastel hues such as jade green, peach pink, sunny yellow, and porcelain blue bring a sense of nostalgia while staying visually fresh and lively. Inspired by traditional Nyonya porcelain, tiles, and kebaya textiles, these colours celebrate the multicultural roots of Malaysia and Singapore while giving the packaging a fun and youthful personality.
Inside each box, there are 8 to 10 individually wrapped mini cookies, making them easy to share and enjoy on the go. Bold Chinese and English typography, combined with vibrant colours and playful graphic elements, helps the packaging stand out and capture the attention of younger audiences. By blending traditional cultural references with modern design aesthetics, the packaging reimagines nostalgic Nanyang charm in a way that feels fresh, engaging, and relatable for today’s Gen Z consumers.
