QURT package

Kurt is a traditional Kazakh fermented dairy product deeply rooted in nomadic culture. Valued for its long shelf life, nutritional density, and portability, it historically served as an essential food for people living in constant movement across the steppe.

This project reimagines kurt through a contemporary packaging design that bridges cultural heritage and modern aesthetics. The form of the packaging is directly inspired by the traditional yurt — a symbol of home, mobility, and community. By translating this architectural form into a compact, tactile object, the design preserves cultural meaning while adapting it to a modern context.

A key challenge was to avoid stereotypical visual representations of national identity. Instead of relying on decorative elements, the project focuses on form, material, and interaction. The yurt-inspired structure becomes both a functional container and a narrative device, allowing users to physically engage with the cultural reference.

From an industry perspective, the project explores how packaging can act as a medium for cultural storytelling. It demonstrates a shift from purely functional design towards emotionally engaging, meaningful objects that communicate origin, identity, and value.
