Layered Atelier is a French pâtisserie built by a founder with formal training in both design and pastry-making, the latter completed in France. The brief called for an identity that reflects both disciplines: structured enough for someone with technical knowledge of lamination, while reflecting the visual discipline of her design training.
The design architecture is constructed drawing inspiration from the repeating, overlapping layers – mirroring the pastry-making process itself. A clean lowercase wordmark, paired with two geometric patterns: a diagonal stripe inspired by bakery awnings and pâtisserie ribbon, and a houndstooth-inspired pattern drawn from traditional French gingham and table linens. Both patterns designed to be adaptable, scaling consistently from a jam jar lid to a storefront window. The palette – terracotta, earthy yellow, magenta-pink, milk chocolate-brown, and cream – is drawn directly from the product, with gold foil applied selectively to highlight the logo.
This system extends across the full collateral suite: pastry bags, cookie sleeves, jam jars, packaging boxes, totes, menus, ribbon trims, gift tags, and storefront signage, unified by a small recurring seal used as a closure sticker and brand anchor. The result is an identity built with the same precision and structure as the product it represents.
