For decades, brands have competed within categories. Chocolate competed with chocolate. Beauty competed with beauty. Today, those boundaries are becoming increasingly irrelevant.
Consumers don’t organise their lives around categories. They move fluidly between products, brands and experiences that help express who they are, how they feel and what they want to share. As a result, the most compelling collaborations are no longer driven by product logic, but by cultural relevance.
The Cadbury Dairy Milk × MCoBeauty collaboration is a reflection of this shift.
The Opportunity
Cadbury Dairy Milk remains one of Australia’s most loved brands, built on generations of trust, familiarity and everyday indulgence.
But younger consumers increasingly discover brands through culture rather than category. They gravitate towards products that feel expressive, collectible and worthy of sharing, rewarding brands that participate in the conversations shaping their lives.
The opportunity wasn’t simply to launch another Dairy Milk product, but to create a cultural moment.
By partnering with Australia’s fastest-growing beauty brand, MCoBeauty, Dairy Milk could step beyond confectionery and into one of Gen Z’s most influential rituals: beauty.
Our Approach
Rather than treating the collaboration as a licensing exercise, we designed it as the meeting point between two iconic brand worlds. The challenge wasn’t making chocolate look like cosmetics. It was creating a visual language that celebrated both brands while preserving the unmistakable recognisability of Cadbury Dairy Milk.
Inspired by beauty palettes, cosmetic packaging and the expressive language of colour, the design introduces a more fashion-led aesthetic that sits confidently alongside Dairy Milk’s iconic purple.
For the gifting range, we extended the concept further, drawing inspiration from makeup kits and cosmetic bags to create products that feel less like traditional chocolate gifts and more like desirable lifestyle objects.
The result balances disruption with familiarity, inviting younger consumers into the brand without compromising the equity built over generations.
The Outcome
The collaboration demonstrates how established brands can remain culturally relevant without abandoning what makes them iconic.
Rather than stretching into an unrelated category, Cadbury Dairy Milk entered an adjacent cultural space built around self-expression, indulgence and everyday rituals.
Because today, the strongest collaborations aren’t built by combining categories.
They’re built by connecting cultures.
