LEGENDARY PERFUME – 7 Conditions
This is a contemporary and experimental perfume gift set packaging inspired the Malaysian folktale “Puteri Gunung Ledang” which translates to “Princess of Mount Ledang”. It is a famous Malay folklore about a magical princess with great beauty who lived at the peak of Mount Ledang.
Story
In the story set in the late 15th century, during the rule of the Sultan of Malacca, the Sultan lost his wife and wanted to marry the legendary princess. To politely reject the proposal because she did not want to marry him, the princess asked for seven impossible gifts:
- A golden bridge from Malacca to the mountain
- A silver bridge from the mountain back to Malacca
- Seven jars of tears from virgin girls
- Seven jars of young betel nut juice
- Seven trays of mosquito hearts
- Seven trays of mite livers
- A bowl of fresh blood from the Sultan’s young son
The Sultan could not meet the final condition involving his son, so the marriage did not happen.
Concept
This concept focuses on Puteri Gunung Ledang as a mysterious and unattainable being who resides atop the mountain. Inspired by the legend’s seven impossible tasks, the packaging is designed as a layered mountain that users progressively ascend. Each layer represents a step in the journey, symbolising the challenges that must be overcome before reaching the summit. The main perfume is positioned at the highest peak, representing the Puteri herself. This creates the feeling of climbing the impossible mountain and completing the legendary tasks before finally reaching the princess.
