Bicycle Serenity Playing Cards is a premium collectible deck designed by world renowned playing cards designer Destino and produced by EmilySleights52, printed by the United States Playing Card Company under the Bicycle brand. The deck is built around a single emotional idea: stillness within movement. The white dove, a universal symbol of peace, clarity, and transcendence sits at the center of a swirling cosmic world, creating an intentional tension between the turbulence of the universe and the calm at its core. Aimed at cardists, magicians, and collectors, the deck delivers a complete visual world from tuck box to face card.
CONCEPT
The design challenge was translating an emotional state — serenity — into a visual language that feels genuinely alive rather than passive. The solution was contrast: pairing the stillness of the dove with an explosive psychedelic surround of layered wave forms, deep navy, hot magenta, electric blue, and warm gold. The card back constructs four doves in rotational symmetry around a dark geometric center, pulling the composition into an almost mandala-like structure that radiates outward. The deck’s design language carries consistently across every touchpoint. The wavy border ornaments of the back design reappear as frame elements on the borderless court cards and number cards, binding the full 54-card system into a coherent whole.
The tuck box is produced on dark blue matte paper stock with CMYK ink, a deliberate restraint that lets the illustration do the work without the distraction of metallic finishes. The Bicycle front panel uses the standard brand architecture but integrates seamlessly with the deck’s palette, the dove appearing in an oval cameo framed by the deck’s own color world. The borderless card face treatment — removing the traditional white border entirely was a key structural decision: it extends the wavy ornamental motifs edge-to-edge, making each card feel like a window into the deck’s universe rather than a framed image within it.
Serenity Playing Cards successfully funded through Kickstarter and was printed by USPCC, one of the most respected playing card manufacturers in the world. The deck has been received as a cohesive collector object, one where the psychedelic boldness of the back design and the calm of its central motif create a visual experience that rewards both the quick glance and the slow study.
