Vislander – World War II sustenance wine of Vis islanders

The story of Vislander is a story about islanders – the people of Vis and the Brits. While World War II was raging in the Adriatic, Vis was hiding a secret British Air Base. Being isolated, the Vis islanders lacked food, and the Brits craved for peacetime pleasures. That is why two Vis islanders – grandma Franka and grandpa Jure, made a pact with the British soldiers. They agreed to trade wine for food. This pact was a complete success.

That is how the island’s turbulent history interlinked with the history of a family led to Vislander, a name given to this brand. The name, branding and design was made by Bruketa&Zinic&Grey agency from Croatia.

The design of the label features the embossed topographic representations of the island’s field relief as well as the old family photos. The Vislander brand makes wines from Plavac mali and Vugava grape varieties indigenous to the Island of Vis. The product assortment includes premium wines such as Plavac mali Grand cru, Rosé and Bugava (Vugava), as well as grappas and gin.
