Betöltetlen terek (Empty Spaces) – Book Cover Design for Erika Sárhelyi
The cover design for Empty Spaces by Erika Sárhelyi captures profound emotional depth through a minimalist yet evocative visual style. Using a pastel-based color palette, I aimed to convey the fragility and blurriness of emotions and memories, reflecting the essence of the book’s themes.
The central composition features two figures in an embrace, but with a poignant twist: one figure is represented by empty space, emphasizing absence and loss. This innovative use of negative space reinforces the title’s symbolism and deepens the visual impact, inviting the viewer to reflect on the emotions tied to absence and longing.
To enhance the emotional resonance, I applied a subtle blur effect, creating a dreamlike quality that mirrors the transient yet enduring nature of memories and feelings. The soft blending of colors and shapes further conveys this delicate balance, adding layers of meaning to the design.
Inspired by Erika Sárhelyi’s personal journey, I sought to create a cover that not only aligns with the book’s narrative but also pays homage to the author’s emotional world. The design aims to establish a profound connection with readers, drawing them into the depth of the story before they even open the book.
The combination of negative space and the pastel aesthetic results in a distinctive, artistic cover that authentically represents the subtlety and poignancy of Empty Spaces, while honoring Erika Sárhelyi’s literary voice.
