La Canción de Oro –  Añejo Tequila
(The Golden Song – Gold Tequila)

Couple of years ago I executed a turn-key project called “La Canción de Plata” – “The Silver Song”. We created the Concept, Theme, Brand Identity and Sureky Bottle Design, Labeling & Packaging for a company that produces Tequila, and back then it was a Silver Tequila (Colorless).

Later last year we were assigned a second project from the same company to work on Aged Tequila (Añejo Tequila) but this time it was Gold / Yellow or Oro in Spanish.

The client had some new requests based on our earlier design “La Canción de Plata”  that really were challenging and could be briefed as:

  •  It is Yellow / God Tequila
  •  Increase volume from 750ml to 1L
  •  Keep Same Bottle Shape & Keep Exact Height
  •  Maintain Packaging (Accomodate to bottle but Keep Height)
  •  Remove front metallic label – Play around the backside (we flipped the dancer & text to be read from front)
  •  Add a neck label
  •  Cap embedded metal plate too thin, thicken it.
  •  Can we have a different label on Backside

And a tight deadline to finalize 3 months prior to 5th of May 2025 so the company can launch on “Cinco de Mayo” which is an annual celebration held on May 5 to celebrate Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza.

The Theme:

Inspired by the 1959 Marty Robbins Song “El Paso” – The story is in the days of the Wild West and recalls a cowboy in El Paso, Texas, and how he frequented “Rosa’s Cantina”, where he became smitten with a young Mexican dancer named Feleena.

The lyrics (Partial):

‘Out in the West Texas town of El Paso
I fell in love with a Mexican girl
Nighttime would find me in Rosa’s cantina
Music would play and Feleena would whirl’

The Bottle:

“La Canción de Oro” Translates as: “The Golden Song” – Golden Tequila
1 Liter / 40% ABV (PROOF:80)
The Package:A side flip-open (Coated Cardboard) & packed with 3 Shot Glasses (in protective cardboard) & surely the bottle itself.

The Cap:

The cap is made of glass with a “Polymer” seal that tightly holds and securely stops leakage of contents. The top glass part embeds a brass coin with the engraving of the company brand.
