Fungarium dried mushrooms

The packaging designed for Fungarium, a brand specialized in wild dried mushrooms, emphasizes line-drawn illustrations of the specific mushroom species, as well as organically flowing hills that wrap around the box. With the pictograms created for the packaging, I aimed for simplicity. The use of tapering and thickening lines reminiscent of calligraphy was intended to evoke the script style of old herbariums, an approach also reflected in the mushroom illustrations. The color palette was inspired by characteristic features associated with each mushroom species. It was important for me to design a simple outer box, as an inner glass container is required. The boxes feature a standard snap closure, and the flaps were given rounded edges to reinforce the concept of the surrounding hills. As mentioned, the dried mushrooms are ultimately stored in glass jars. The labels designed for these jars also focus on simplicity while subtly recalling the atmosphere of traditional herbariums and fungariums. Overall, through the use of color, typography, and illustration, I was able to bring back a touch of the old-world herbarium feeling, while still keeping the design fresh and contemporary.
