Concept and Inspiration for the “Khamsa” Tea Collection from Azerbaijan

The “Khamsa” collection is a premium tea packaging series by Azerçay, inspired by the legendary “Khamsa” (Quintet) of the 12th-century poet Nizami Ganjavi. The project aims to merge Azerbaijan’s deeply rooted tea culture with its rich literary heritage. Each box represents a separate poem from the Quintet, where traditional miniature art styles bring timeless stories to life.

Design Elements

Visual storytelling: The illustrations draw from Eastern miniature art, depicting iconic scenes from “Layla and Majnun,” “Khosrow and Shirin,” and “The Treasury of Mysteries.”

Color palette: To distinguish different tea varieties while maintaining a cohesive, regal feel, a vibrant yet refined palette of royal blue, deep red, and emerald green was chosen.

Ornaments and patterns: Gold-foiled “islimi” patterns and arched frames reflect classical Eastern architecture and traditional bookbinding artistry.

Functional elegance: A transparent window on the front panel allows customers to view the quality of the loose-leaf tea, blending historical artistry with modern retail transparency.

Execution

The packaging uses high-quality cardboard with gold embossing and matte lamination, creating a premium tactile experience. The result is not just a container for tea, but a cultural keepsake.
