Translating a visual metaphor into olive oil packaging
The ZAYT packaging concept is built around the metaphor of olive oil as “liquid gold” — a precious natural product that has held an important place in Mediterranean culture, gastronomy, and traditions for thousands of years. This idea emphasizes not only the exceptional quality of the oil but also its natural value, rich flavor, health benefits, and distinctive origin.
The centerpiece of the design is a glass vessel inspired by the shape of the legendary Aladdin’s lamp. Within its cultural context, the lamp symbolizes treasure, rarity, and the fulfillment of wishes, making it a powerful and meaningful symbol for a premium product. The use of transparent glass allows the olive oil itself to become part of the visual composition: its rich golden hue fills the vessel with color, creating the impression of a precious liquid contained within an elegant form.
The brand name ZAYT is derived from the Arabic word for “oil,” directly reflecting the essence of the product while reinforcing its authenticity. The logo is rendered in Latin characters with subtle influences from Arabic calligraphy, creating a visual connection between a contemporary international brand and the cultural heritage of the region. This design approach highlights the Tunisian origin of the oil, its connection to local traditions, and the region’s long-standing history of olive cultivation.
As a result, the packaging becomes more than a functional container; it serves as a storytelling medium that brings together symbolism, provenance, and a premium perception of olive oil.
