🌊 The Legend
Son of Cronus and Rhea, and brother of Zeus and Hades, Poseidon was granted dominion over the seas following the victory against the Titans. Master of the oceans, earthquakes, and horses, he wielded his trident to tame the waves and shake the earth.
On the island of Kefalonia, legend has it that vines sprang forth beneath his footsteps, blessed by the sea breeze and the warmth of the Greek sun. From this island terroir comes a red wine of divine intensity: Poseidon, the wine of the gods.

The story of Hop-o’-My-Thumb is a tale of courage, ingenuity, and the strength of the smallest among us when facing life’s hardships.
A poor woodcutter and his wife, overwhelmed by poverty, decide one day to abandon their seven children in the forest because they can no longer afford to feed them. The youngest, known as Hop-o’-My-Thumb because of his tiny stature, overhears his parents’ plan. Without saying a word, he fills his pockets with small white pebbles. When the time comes to leave home, he scatters them along the path, allowing him to guide his brothers and himself safely back.
Sadly, with famine proving stronger than love, their parents eventually abandon them once again. This time, Hop-o’-My-Thumb has no pebbles and uses pieces of bread to mark the path. However, the birds eat the crumbs, leaving the children completely lost.
While wandering through the woods, the children discover the home of a terrifying ogre who intends to eat them. Clever and resourceful, Hop-o’-My-Thumb foils the ogre’s plan by swapping the boys’ caps with the crowns worn by the ogre’s sleeping daughters. As a result, the ogre mistakenly kills his own daughters.
The brothers escape, but the ogre pursues them wearing his seven-league boots, which allow him to cover enormous distances with each step. Once again, Hop-o’-My-Thumb demonstrates his ingenuity. Through cunning and persuasion, he exhausts the ogre, steals his boots, and brings his brothers safely home.
The Moral of the Story
Hop-o’-My-Thumb teaches us that a person’s size or appearance does not determine their worth. Although small and frequently underestimated, Hop-o’-My-Thumb displays remarkable courage and quick thinking, saving his brothers twice. The tale shows that cleverness and ingenuity can triumph over brute strength while emphasising the importance of courage when confronting adversity.
Ultimately, Hop-o’-My-Thumb is a story of resilience and strength of mind. It reminds us that even in the face of overwhelming hardship, a way forward can be found through courage, resourcefulness, and determination.
Hop-o’-My-Thumb, or Le Petit Poucet in French, is a fairy tale by Charles Perrault that illustrates the “morality of merit”: the idea that talent, ingenuity, and hard work can be rewarded despite the disadvantages of one’s birth.
