In a market saturated with PTFE-coated non-stick cookware, P•TAL set out to build something fundamentally different: a contemporary Indian cookware brand rooted in cultural truth. Founded to revive the dying Thathera craft of Jandiala Guru, Amritsar, P•TAL’s ambition was to carry a centuries-old, UNESCO-listed tradition into modern life. However, before scaling across India and globally (USA), the brand lacked strategic clarity.
How could centuries-old craftsmanship feel at home on modern retail shelves without losing its authenticity? How could the story transcend geography while remaining rooted in its cultural origins? And how could heritage be communicated without making the brand feel dated or nostalgic?
The problem went beyond visual inconsistency. P•TAL needed a clear philosophy, to reshape how the brand looked, spoke, and ultimately, how it was understood globally.
Working closely with the founders and artisans revealed a deeper purpose: this was not simply about cookware, but about sustaining a community and protecting a living craft. We set out to translate this cultural depth into a distinctive, contemporary brand language capable of carrying a centuries-old legacy into the future.
We decoded heritage cues and distilled them into a simpler, scalable system that would sit comfortably on modern retail shelves while retaining a strong connection to its cultural roots. We developed a colour-coded framework that helped making heritage more accessible, recognisable and relevant across markets.
At the heart of the brand lies the core idea : Artful Utility. “Artful” honours skilled craftsmanship and time-tested, eco-conscious values. “Utility” anchors the product in purpose – cookware that enhances everyday rituals and elevates daily cooking into something meaningful.
Every design decision served this idea. The visual language balances material honesty with contemporary restraint. The tone of voice speaks with cultural confidence, not nostalgia. The packaging elevates craft into a premium, giftable experience while remaining grounded in authenticity. The result is a brand system designed to travel, across categories, platforms, and markets, without losing its cultural center.
