DigIn

Dig In is a package with a complex message. Its name is a play on words that can be interpreted literally: dig into the planting-dig into its history. Dig In is a packaging design centered on the emperor tree. The history of the emperor tree dates back to ancient China, which served as the inspiration for the packaging design. It alludes to the Chinese tradition associated with the emperor tree, according to which if the phoenix lands on it, it brings good luck and abundance. The emperor tree is a pioneer plant, meaning it grows quickly, tolerates extreme conditions well, thrives even with few nutrients, and reproduces rapidly. Its roots do not branch out but grow downward, making it perfect for urban environments. It does not heave up roads, is an effective air purifier, and, thanks to its large leaves, provides excellent shade.  It helps mitigate urban heat island effects and creates a habitat for numerous species, thereby increasing urban biodiversity. The packaging is made from recyclable, eco-friendly material. It required gluing in one spot, which I did using an adhesive made from natural ingredients. The plant is peat-based, which breaks down upon planting, so it can be planted along with the peat and serves as a good source of nutrients. It contains no extra paper; the planting and care instructions, along with its historical background, are printed on the inside of the packaging. It contains no plastic or any non-biodegradable materials. The package measures 10x10x10 cm, making it easy to carry. The plant is stabilized by a holder made from the same material used for the packaging, which does not block out the light.
