ABOUT
Part of Mondelēz International, Sour Patch Kids is built on a simple, subversive promise: first sour, then sweet. Defined by contrast, the brand has long delivered an experience that goes beyond flavour—rooted in tension, release, and a mischievous sense of unpredictability.
As a long-term partner, Brand Society saw an opportunity to push this idea further. Not by changing it, but by making it more immediate and physical—evolving Sour Patch Kids from something you understand into something you can feel before it’s even tasted.
SOLUTION
Brand Society translated the brand’s defining contrast into a visual language driven by rhythm, density, scale, and energy. Rather than relying on flavour cues alone, the system was designed to mirror the product experience itself—building tension and release directly into the design.
Across the portfolio, a more cohesive and flexible brand world was established, balancing strong masterbrand recognition with the ability to stretch and evolve. Graphics, characters, and compositions were reimagined to feel more dynamic and expressive, introducing a sense of movement and controlled chaos.
This thinking is most clearly realised in the Mini Sour Patch Kids range. The smaller format creates multiplicity—more pieces, more variation, more unpredictability. Packaging leans into this with repetition and density to signal abundance, exaggerated shifts in scale to create disruption, and bold, high-frequency colour to amplify intensity. Every element works to simulate the sensory experience of the product itself.
RESULT
The result is a brand system that moves beyond communication into sensation—transforming Sour Patch Kids into a more immersive, experience-led brand. By amplifying contrast across every touchpoint, Brand Society has ensured the brand’s iconic “first sour, then sweet” promise is no longer just a flavour profile, but something that can be seen, felt, and anticipated from the very first glance.
