Arcana

Some things improve with age. Others should remain buried.

’Tis the season for dark discoveries, and the enigmatic minds at JDO have unearthed Arcana: a premium wine concept steeped in medieval mystery, with centuries of secrets and perhaps a restless spirit concealed beneath every seal.

Created for JDO’s annual Halloween concept, Arcana draws its name from Latin roots associated with secrets and mysteries. Its story begins in a forgotten cellar beneath a haunted 15th-century castle, where three wines have lain hidden since 1463. Their discovery awakens spirits bound within the bottles. To contain them, each must be cloaked and sealed once more.

That act of concealment shapes the design: melting red wax for the red, gold foil for the orange and aged vellum-like paper for the white. Each covering cloaks most of the bottle, offering only a glimpse of the wordmark embossed into the glass beneath. Rich and tactile, the materials give each wine the presence of a precious relic, shrouded to keep its spirits at bay.

Wax seals bear a key motif, the inscription “Wine beneath the surface” and “Est. 1463”, anchoring Arcana in its imagined medieval past. Pulling a foil-detailed tab removes the upper covering, exposing the bottle’s neck and cork. One step closer to discovering what lies within.

The brand imagery draws us deeper into this world, to a cellar that could just as easily be a crypt. Here, intimate dinners feel like secret gatherings, with precious wine waiting in the darkness. Medieval mystery meets modern elegance, setting the scene for a gathering with a hint of the forbidden.

Arcana draws on a familiar human weakness: the urge to uncover what perhaps should be left alone. JDO creates a ritual in which beauty invites the hand to do what instinct warns against. What remains hidden holds the greatest power, and the design makes resisting it all but impossible.

Arcana has been waiting centuries. The question is, what else have you uncorked?
