Steep and Stir

Studio Shala

ABOUT

Steep & Stir was developed as a contemporary tea brand centred around the quieter, sensory side of tea. The brief was to create packaging that could move away from the predictable visual language of tea while still respecting its long-standing ritual and craft.

CONCEPT

Instead of focusing solely on the product, the concept explores what happens around it, the movement of the leaves, the aroma that gradually fills the air, and the hazy feeling of time slowing down while the tea steeps.

The idea was to capture that fleeting moment between preparing and drinking tea.

SOLUTION

This was translated into a visual system that balances organic and contemporary elements. Illustrated mark depict the flowers and leaves within the blends, while fluid compositions and softened photography create a sense of movement. The earthy palette takes inspiration from the natural tones of tea and its ingredients, giving the identity a grounded quality while allowing the overall aesthetic to feel more modern than traditional tea packaging.

DESIGN APPROACH

Textures were introduced across the packaging to create a more tactile, earthy quality, reinforcing the connection to natural ingredients and the physical ritual of preparing tea. The result is a balance between softness and structure, nature and modernity.

WHAT MAKES IT DISTINCTIVE

Rather than treating tea packaging as simply a vessel for communicating flavour, origin and ingredients, Steep & Stir uses the package to communicate a feeling. The visual language attempts to make the intangible qualities of tea such as aroma, movement, warmth and the passage of time, tangible through colour, texture, and composition.
