This spring I worked on class project of redesigning the packaging for Listerine. The concept was to make the product more counter friendly. Something that both men and women between the ages of 20 to 30 would find appealing enough to leave on their bathroom sinks. Some products these days are packaged in way that they almost function as part of the decor in the consumer’s homes. The challenge was to repackage Listerine in a way that it felt fresh, young and contemporary but at the same time retained the strength that the brand is known for. The thought process that led to this patterned approach was that these patterns would keep changing periodically, echoing back to the idea of feeling fresh after using the product. I tried to abstract the movement of “swishing” the mouthwash around in your mouth in order to come up with these patterns. All in all, the bright colours coupled with the bold overall patterns does not only make it counter appealing but helps the product stand out more on the shelf.
