Creative Agency: Cyberpac
Project Type: Self Promotion
Location: United Kingdom
Materials: High density foam, acrylic, paper over board, metal, CPP, Cybercard 3D

THE BRIEF:
Cyberpac are packaging and production specialist and often approach design briefs by using materials as the starting point. To highlight this, as well as the wide range of expertise we have across materials and processes, we created a “materials sampler” to act as a reference for designers and to showcase how the particular characteristics of different materials lend themselves to specific applications. Our intention is to stimulate designers to think anew about the materials they use, and challenge their preconceptions about how they are used.

THE SOLUTION:
This amazing piece of foam engineering pushes the boundaries of technology and conceptual design. Cut from a single piece of cross linked, super high density foam, the hinge is strong but flexible, and the book closes with an interlocking push fit mechanism cut from the foam itself. Internal cavities are routed out, and the front, back and spine are all precision laser etched. The detail and fidelity of the laser work is second to none, and allows for remarkable detail including shading, variable depth and complex patterns.

The contents include a paper over board slipcase, an etched and printed matte black business card, a metallic cast polypropylene envelope, samples of our Cybercard 3D “super embossable” card, and a two part composite image cleverly printed onto translucent acrylic.
