My concept was to stray away from stereotypical Russian design – usually influenced by Russian constructivism and very rigid, san-serif typographic treatments. Underneath that tough facade, Russian people are actually very warm-hearted people.
I created three bottle labels for a Russian product called Kvas. It is a soda drink made from fermented bread, and the type of bread gives off the color of the drink. It used to be a very common item that street vendors sold on the streets. Overall, I wanted to give off a feeling of warmth and friendliness with a thick, handwritten script logo and incorporate decorative, painted elements often found on top of Russian nesting dolls to complement the design.
