Gonzalez Byass presented a new range of wines called Vinos Finitos (finite wines). At some point these rare wines were set aside and almost deliberately ‘forgotten’, only to be rediscovered now. The amounts are limited so the bottlings won’t be continuously available.
The first wine in the series is Alfonso Oloroso 1|6 (‘Uno de seis’), a classic dry wine which would traditionally have been described as an Oloroso Fino because of its finesse and elegance. It comes from one barrel of over 40 years old. Originally it was part of the standard solera of Alfonso, the best known Oloroso of the house. One of the former cellarmasters chose to set aside six botas that showed a particular character which he wanted to preserve. From these six, the current enologist Antonio Flores now selected this one. It is said to be an intense, glyceric Oloroso.
The wine has a strength of 22 degrees. Only 965 bottles.
