Hattingley Valley is an English winery that produces premium sparkling wines. The family-owned business, which is based in Hampshire, was established in 2008 and manages over 60 acres of vines. The company is known for using traditional winemaking methods, such as fermenting in oak barrels, and has won multiple industry awards.

Recently, the Royston Labels team manufactured a range of self-adhesive labels for a selection of Hattingley Valley’s sparkling wines: the Classic Reserve, Rosé, and Blanc de Blancs. The design brief necessitated the use of a premium substrate, and hot foil embellishments in silver, gold, and rose gold. Further embellishments were added in the form of emboss and tactile gloss lacquer.

To bring these labels to life we utilised our Nilpeter FA-4 12 unit combination press, foiling and embossing each label on our Pantec Rhino unit, which allows for multiple embellishments in a single pass. We printed onto a material supplied by Avery Dennison: Frozen Orion Plus. This is a wet-strength, pearlescent woven effect material that is particularly well suited to sparkling wine. In addition, the material is fabric-like and highly textured, enhancing the premium look and feel.

We obtained specialist grade foils in silver and gold from Kurz, applying them with a great deal of care. Because Frozen Orion Plus is so thick and textured, we knew in advance that adding hot foils would pose a serious challenge. We had to produce bold solids as well as fine detailing and reversals, paying particularly close attention to the Hattingley emblem: the silver-washed fritillary butterfly.

The fantastic finished results speak to the skill of our staff, who worked carefully with our Pantec Rhino unit to ensure the highest quality.
