Appartemet 103 creates BIG KAHUNA GIN

Perola Spirits approached luxury branding and packaging design agency Appartement 103 to develop a new pineapple-infused gin brand from scratch – Big Kahuna – conveying the aloha spirit.

The deliverables included bespoke structural bottle and closure design, visual identity and shipping boxes’ graphic design.

The Hawaiian spirit and pineapple flavours directly transport consumers to a laidback and playful state of mind. The juice offers a distinctive pineapple flavour as part of an overall taste profile of a light, refreshing, fruity gin perfectly crafted for mixing.

Adding premiumness and innovation, the agency had all elements to build a confident gin brand ready to compete internationally.

The bottle structure was a technical design challenge using a new blowing technology.

While the gin is poured and the juice comes out, the bottle reveals an embossed inner pattern, a clever nod to the pineapple fruit. This innovation, giving life to the bottle, has been achieved by building the embossed glass pattern inside the bottle and not outside as we usually know it.

Complimented by a bespoke laser engraved closure, the overall shape convey the pineapple fruit with modernity and a playful look and feel.

The label’s graphic design perfectly plays its role, injecting boldness with a strong colourway. Embossed finishing and spot varnishes add refinement to the overall presentation.

“The Big Kahuna project has been the most significant brand creation endeavour for Perola thus far, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. The talented team at Appartement 103 has brilliantly transformed our vision into a stunning and iconic visual brand identity. Despite encountering various challenges due to the innovative nature of the packaging, Appartement 103 rose to the occasion and worked diligently with us to overcome them. We are grateful for their exceptional work and unwavering dedication to the success of this project.” Says Perola Spirits’ Managing Director, Arno Schmid-Egger.
