Famìa is an award-winning project by Studio Tumpić/Prenc for a line of extra virgin olive oils from Rovinj, exploring the bond between product, place, and identity.
The bottle design tells the story of its hometown. Rovinj is a picturesque Istrian town that developed on a small peninsula, with houses of various colors and sizes clustered along the coast, a visual identity that has become its most recognizable symbol.
In collaboration with Etikgraf, the Studio aimed to translate this symbol into the new line of olive oils so that the design, beyond its primary function, would also celebrate and promote Rovinj itself.
Each bottle thus becomes a house, or rather a home to the many diverse families of Rovinj. The design even plays with the idea of windows, some open and some closed, just like in real life, evoking the vibrant spirit of the town and the individuality of each household.
The color of each bottle was also carefully selected, representing the intensity of the olive oil it contains. By thoughtfully combining bottles of different sizes, one can create dynamic compositions reminiscent of a charming Mediterranean townscape. This approach naturally draws customers’ attention without the need for additional in-store display elements, significantly reducing the client’s merchandising costs.
Beyond enriching the retail experience, the design invites customers to collect all oil intensities, creating their own miniature Rovinj at home, an authentic piece of local heritage that simultaneously supports the client’s sales and brand engagement.
In addition to packaging, the Studio was also tasked with developing a new name. Rovinj has a long tradition of fishing and olive oil production, both cornerstones of Mediterranean cuisine. In the past, every family in Rovinj had its own supply of olive oil, produced from olive groves surrounding the town. This inspired the name Famìa, derived from the local Rovinj dialect word for “family.” The original store name, “House of Local Products”, was kept as the brand’s slogan.
The logo adds a subtle yet meaningful detail: the letter ì in Famìa has been transformed into a chimney with smoke, symbolizing warmth, home, and cooking with olive oil at the heart of it all.
Through a combination of homeliness, heritage, and collectibility, this project has impressed national, European, and international juries, earning recognition at: Communication Arts, European Design Awards, Pentawards and Zagreb Design Week, making it Croatia’s most internationally awarded project in 2025.
