Description:
Zafri is a premium Saudi Arabian date brand built around one core truth – nature’s finest fruit deserves nature’s finest presentation. The packaging design had to bridge two worlds: the rich cultural heritage of the Arabian Peninsula and the clean, modern aesthetic that resonates with today’s global health-conscious consumer.
Design Concept:
The design system is built around three distinct SKUs – each variety given its own color identity while maintaining a cohesive brand language across the range.
Ajwa Dates – Royal Blue: Ajwa is the most revered date in Islamic tradition, historically grown in Madinah and prized for centuries. The royal blue colorway was chosen to reflect its sacred status and deep cultural significance. The packaging honors this with restrained elegance, gold detailing, and an iconic Saudi cityscape silhouette.
Zahidi Dates – Olive Green: Zahidi is one of the most widely cultivated date varieties in Saudi Arabia – a semi-dry date known for its golden color, mild sweetness, and long shelf life. The olive green palette draws directly from the date palm groves where Zahidi thrives, communicating naturalness, harvest, and agricultural heritage.
Medjool Dates – Deep Burgundy: Often called the King of Dates, Medjool is the largest, richest, and most indulgent variety – soft, caramel-like, and deeply satisfying. The deep burgundy colorway reflects its luxurious character. This is the gifting SKU, chosen for Eid, Ramadan, and premium retail shelves.
Cultural Design Language:
The ornate border patterns running across the top of each pouch are inspired by traditional Islamic geometric art, connecting the modern FMCG format to centuries of Arabian craft tradition. The illustrated cityscape silhouette featuring camel caravans, palm trees, and the iconic Saudi skyline grounds each pack in its geographical origin story.
Typography and Color:
Gold on rich color backgrounds creates an immediate premium shelf presence. The typeface pairing – elegant serif for the brand name, clean contemporary serif for Dates – signals both tradition and trust. Each color variant carries specific emotional weight: cobalt blue for reverence and royalty (Ajwa), olive green for nature and authenticity (Zahidi), and deep burgundy for indulgence and celebration (Medjool).
Functional Design:
The stand-up pouch format with resealable zipper serves the modern pantry. Clean iconography across the bottom panel communicates key claims – No Cholesterol, No Added Sugar, Gluten Free, No Added Preservatives, 100% Natural – in a format that translates across languages and markets. Net weight 250g per pack. Product of Saudi Arabia.
Result:
A packaging system that elevates three distinct traditional date varieties into a cohesive premium brand – equally at home on a supermarket shelf in Riyadh, a specialty health store in London, or a gourmet food hall in New York. Zafri does not just sell dates – it delivers a story of origin, purity, and craft in every pack.
