Jerk Dogs — Jamaican-Inspired Hot Dogs

Jerk Dogs — Jamaican-Inspired Hot Dogs

Jerk Dogs merges two very different food traditions: the deep culinary heritage of Jamaican jerk seasoning with the familiar comfort of the North American hot dog. The brand had proven the concept successfully through food truck appearances at festivals, and was ready to make the transition to retail packaging. A competitive shelf audit made the problem clear: existing jerk-flavoured sausage products on the Canadian market failed to capture the spirit of Caribbean culture, the packaging was generic, emotionally inert, and offered no authentic connection to the food’s origins.

Eye Candy Design refined and expanded the existing Jerk Dogs identity to create packaging that genuinely evokes Jamaican backyard barbecue culture. The visual system draws on vibrant Caribbean colours and authentic cultural motifs, prioritising real representation over the shorthand of tourism-ready imagery. The design communicates bold flavour and cultural pride simultaneously, signalling to both the Caribbean diaspora and adventurous mainstream consumers that this product is the real thing. The full scope included packaging design for mild and spicy variants, plus supporting marketing collateral.

The owner’s response to seeing the final designs was immediate and visceral, he said the packaging reminded him of a Jamaican backyard and genuinely evoked the feel of the country and its food culture. That emotional validation, from someone with a direct connection to that heritage, was the clearest possible signal that the design had landed.
