Lvivske Football 2026

Reynolds and Reyner

Limited-edition design for “Lvivske” 1715, created to mark the 20th anniversary of Ukraine’s most legendary FIFA World Cup campaign in 2006. The key challenge was to create a design that evokes nostalgia and unites Ukrainians around football ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The design needed to capture a specific football story — that match, that summer, that national team — without depicting real players or recognizable locations. After exploring several creative directions, we chose an approach inspired by the visual language of 2006 newspaper graphics. Dynamic, stylized figures in blue and yellow, iconic poses, and the emotions of victory convey the spirit of the moment without referencing any particular individual.

The result is a can that functions both as packaging and as a cultural artifact. Designed in the style of newspaper front pages, featuring the headline “Our G-O-O-O-Goalden Moments” and the signature “Lions of 2006,” it resonates equally with those who watched the matches live and with a younger generation that inherited the story.

Curator’s Insight

What makes this one work is the restraint. It would have been easy to lean on a specific player’s face or a recognizable stadium shot to sell the nostalgia, but stylized silhouettes and newsprint texture do more of the emotional lifting precisely because they’re a little abstract. It leaves room for whoever’s holding the can to fill in their own memory of where they were watching.

The “front page” framing is also a smart structural choice. It gives the designers a built-in hierarchy (headline, photo, caption) that reads instantly as urgent and historic, even on a curved aluminum surface that’s notoriously hard to lay text on cleanly.
