Noctiluca

CHALLENGE

For Crama Hamangia, the challenge was to create a distinctive wine identity rooted in the winery’s terroir near the Black Sea, while giving the product a contemporary character suited to its intended environment — restaurants, bars and nightlife venues.

The design needed to establish a meaningful connection with its place of origin while creating a strong and memorable presence in a setting where atmosphere, light and experience play an important role.

SOLUTION

The concept was inspired by Noctiluca, the natural phenomenon associated with the spectacular bioluminescence of the sea at night.

We translated this phenomenon into the central idea of the brand: light emerging from darkness.

Rather than illustrating the sea literally, we focused on its energy, movement and luminosity, creating a visual identity that connects the Black Sea terroir with the nocturnal environment in which the wine was designed to be enjoyed.

CHARACTER & ILLUSTRATION

The illustration captures the fluid movement of bioluminescence through a system of flowing, luminous lines.

The organic forms move across the label like waves of light appearing on the surface of the sea, creating a sense of motion and depth. Their abstract character allows the phenomenon to be suggested rather than directly depicted, giving the wine a more contemporary and mysterious personality.

The illustration becomes both the storytelling element and the main recognition code of the brand.

VISUAL LANGUAGE

The visual language is built around darkness, movement and light.

A deep background creates the nocturnal atmosphere, while the flowing graphic lines introduce contrast, rhythm and energy. The composition was designed to remain sophisticated in daylight while becoming particularly expressive in the evening environments for which the wine was created.

The result is a visual system that connects product, origin and consumption occasion within one coherent identity.

OUTCOME

The final design gives Noctiluca a distinctive identity rooted in the Black Sea landscape while positioning the wine naturally within restaurants, bars and nightlife venues.

Its visual language creates recognition on the shelf, but also becomes part of the experience once the bottle reaches the table.

From a natural phenomenon to a wine identity, Noctiluca brings together terroir, storytelling and consumer experience in one cohesive concept.
