Tennensui — Echoes of Japan

Tennensui is a redesign project for a Japanese-inspired infused water range, created to reposition the product with a more distinctive, premium, and culturally rooted visual identity.

The original packaging relied on a conventional paper-label system with generic fruit imagery, limiting the visibility of the product and offering little differentiation between flavors. As the range expanded with additional SKUs, the challenge was to create a cohesive packaging system that could accommodate multiple varieties while giving each one its own recognizable character.

The redesign removes the dominant paper label and transforms the transparent glass bottle itself into the primary visual canvas. This allows the clarity of the water and the material quality of the glass to become an active part of the packaging experience, creating a lighter and more refined presence.

The visual direction draws inspiration from traditional Japanese botanical illustration and landscape art. Each flavor is represented through a carefully composed botanical illustration inspired by its Japanese ingredient, while a subtle landscape stretches across the lower part of the bottle, with Mount Fuji appearing on the distant horizon as a recurring element throughout the collection.

Branches, blossoms, fruits, typography, and landscape elements were composed as one continuous visual language rather than independent decorative graphics. This system creates consistency across the range while allowing Sakura Blossom, Japanese Peach, Nashi Pear, Yuzu, and Kyoho Grape to develop their own color palette and personality.

The result is a packaging family that balances Japanese heritage, botanical storytelling, transparency, and contemporary premium aesthetics—turning a simple infused-water bottle into a more distinctive and collectible brand experience.
