MUSIC PACKAGING RETROSPECTIVE – Artwork by LOSEOU

The Context

For over fifteen years, I have been supporting artists from the reggae and world music scene — both in France and internationally — in the creation of their visual identities.

Each album project is a meeting, a story to tell, and an emotion to translate visually.

Packaging becomes an extension of the music itself: a tangible object capable of carrying the artist’s sensitivity and the soul of the project.

The Design Work

This portfolio showcases a selection of eight albums among twenty-one music projects — French and international — created over the years for renowned artists such as Alpha Blondy, Max Romeo, Pablo Moses, Chezidek, Clinton Fearon, Blakkamoore, Takana Zion and Marcus Gad.

Each visual design was conceived as a unique piece, yet part of a global artistic direction.

The goal was to find the right balance between aesthetics, storytelling, and brand consistency, while respecting each artist’s personality and message.

The visuals were developed across multiple formats — digipacks, vinyls, posters, booklets, limited editions, and also merchandising (apparel, accessories, and collector items) — to build a complete visual universe around each release.

Special attention was given to typography, color harmonies, and composition, ensuring a coherent dialogue between artistic intent and production constraints.

The graphic approach varies from minimalism and hand-crafted textures to more contemporary visual codes, depending on the mood and message of each album.

The Mission

  • To create packaging that goes beyond the simple musical object.
  • Each project aimed to capture the artist’s spirit and translate their sound universe into a coherent, accessible, and timeless visual language.
  • This is a full art direction process combining identity, storytelling, and visual marketing.

Deliverables

  • Creation of digipacks, CDs, vinyls, and special editions
  • Merchandising and promotional material design
  • Visuals for print and digital communication
  • Graphic consistency across physical and digital formats
  • Global art direction and production follow-up

The Approach

  • I see music packaging as a bridge between art and the market.
  • The artist expresses themselves through sound, and the designer through image — the power of the visual lies in this encounter.
  • Each design carries the emotion of the music while integrating the marketing markers essential to the project’s diffusion.
  • This long-term work reflects my vision of an artistic direction that is sensitive, cultural, and universal.

Epilogue

This journey has also led me to collaborate on award-winning projects, including two official Gold Records with French artist Yaniss Odua — a symbol of a shared human and artistic adventure.
