MAKIMONO

I received a design for a high-quality sushi packaging to order, which would be of premium quality. It was necessary to think through every detail, starting with the name.

After much research, I chose the name MAKIMONO, which is a Japanese word meaning a rolled object. My thoughts were constantly revolving around the sushi mat and I definitely wanted to use a detail in the design that would resemble a sushi mat. “Why not just a sushi mat?” I thought and got to work.

The design had to be minimalist, the emphasis had to be on the mat itself and there should be no unnecessary details. I got a box in the form of a rolled mat, in which the sushi would be beautifully arranged, and the chopsticks for eating sushi would be fixed on the box.

Inside the box, the sushi would be wrapped in specially treated paper, and the paper would have a small section to easily pull it out of the box. For the name, I chose a bold font that would be engraved on thick cardboard attached to the box. This way, the name can be touched, which will create a pleasant feeling for the buyer. I also chose a slogan: “Craft begins with the mat,” which included the whole meaning that everything in the sushi making process begins with the sushi mat. The result was a rather aesthetic design of a premium class.
