Emerging from the Darkness: The Story of the “Nezhno by Margarit

_

Background

In late 2024, the creators of a new beauty brand approached the “Pier 5” agency. They brought with them a unique and magical story — not merely a business concept, but a personal kind of magic waiting to take shape.

At the heart of this story was Margarita Petrova, a hairstylist and makeup artist with over a decade of experience. Her background included work with numerous celebrities and major projects, as well as helping hundreds of women see themselves in a new light. Along the way, she gained deep insight into beauty and effective hair care.

Thus, the idea to launch her own professional beauty brand was born. The first product — and the first step into a world where grooming becomes a ritual — was the “Moon Mask” restorative hair mask.
The brand’s philosophy was built on gentleness, natural authenticity, femininity, and inner transformation. Here, beauty products are not just formulas but conduits to harmony, confidence, and a special dialogue with oneself.

The name “Nezhno” (meaning “Gently” or “With Tenderness”) was chosen before the agency was even involved. Later, the “Pier 5” team suggested adding “by Margarita” so that anyone holding the product would sense the real person behind it — her soul, her care, and her own hands.

Challenge

“Pier 5” faced an ambitious task: to create a visual identity and packaging design for “Moon Mask”—a product poised to launch on online marketplaces and make a strong impression.

It was crucial to convey several key concepts:
•    natural origins and a gentle touch;
•    femininity and a strength that is soft yet confident;
•    a premium feel and a professional approach that resonates on a subconscious level;
•    Margarita’s personal involvement in every stage of creation;
•    an atmosphere of nighttime restoration—a time when the deepest renewal occurs.

The challenge was to find an image that would unite Margarita’s expertise, nature, and emotion without losing any of these dimensions.

Solution

The “Pier 5” team proposed an idea born from observing what happens after sunset. The visual concept centered on the imagery of moonlight and the unfolding of inner beauty.

The flagship product — the Moon Mask — was not named by accident. Its key ingredient is evening primrose, long known as the “moon flower,” which blooms only at twilight. This very characteristic became the visual metaphor for the entire brand.

Inspired by this extraordinary plant, the agency turned to the rare artistic technique of Lumen printing. It is an almost alchemical process in which images literally emerge under the influence of light. Working with artist Vladislav Lutsin, the team created a series of unique floral prints. Plants were placed on light-sensitive paper, and ultraviolet rays left behind natural, living traces — as unique as nature itself.

The resulting images were digitized to form the foundation of the brand identity. Thus, a visual metaphor for transformation through light was born: inner beauty reveals itself gradually, much like moon flowers opening beneath the night sky. The concept proved powerful; even with production constraints — such as forgoing complex color printing — it retained its expressive impact.

The team paid special attention to the logo. To preserve a sense of craftsmanship and personal touch, “Pier 5” proposed using the actual signature of the brand’s founder, Margarita. The handwritten “by Margarita” became more than just an element of the visual identity; it infused the brand with warmth, sincerity, and a promise of the care poured into every product. To mark the brand’s launch, a limited run of 18 units was produced; Margarita personally packaged and signed each one.

Results

The “Nezhno by Margarita” brand established a cohesive and recognizable visual identity. It successfully integrated the brand’s philosophy, the product’s story, and the creator’s personality — setting it apart from the endless array of cosmetic brands found on online marketplaces today.
Following the successful launch of the Moon Mask, the team is now working to expand the product line; the system developed by “Pier 5” has provided a solid foundation for this growth.

The launch of the Moon Mask was a true success. Sales during the first few “moons” — as the company dubbed the months following the launch — surpassed the 250-unit mark. It was more than just a start; it was magic.
