Product: Energy Drink
Brand: Huk by Elixir 9
We designed the complete brand identity for Huk, an energy drink created for young Indians managing degrees, side hustles, and fitness routines — all on a budget. The brief was to build a brand from scratch that could stand out in a category dominated by Red Bull, Monster, and Bang.
About the brand:
Huk is designed to be real, accessible, and bold. The brand needed to feel premium without being unattainable, playful without being childish, and memorable without relying on loud gimmicks.
About the design:
Our approach focused on designing attitude before visuals. Every decision reflected the lifestyle and mindset of the target audience.
We achieved this through 4 core design choices:
- Name, logo & mascot: The name “Huk” plays on “hook” — sharp and unexpected. The wordmark is block-style with a jagged K that pushes the word forward. The pirate-inspired mascot brings personality, attitude, and memorability across cans, merchandise, and campaigns.
- Subtractive identity: The brand was built as much from what it isn’t as what it is. In a noisy category, clarity and restraint became the key differentiators.
- Audience-first design: Detailed personas guided every choice. Would this feel authentic for someone managing Rs 40,000 a month across rent, gym, and side hustles? If not, the decision changed.
- System built to scale: The identity accommodates multiple flavors, functional variants, retail campaigns, sustainable packaging, and community initiatives.
Current scenario:
Huk launched with a strong identity that competes against established global brands. The logo, mascot, voice, and scalable system give Elixir 9 room to grow across flavors, categories, and digital platforms, ensuring the brand is memorable, accessible, and positioned for long-term success.
