Ben and Bri started Coastal Coffee roasting beans in the back of their green hippie van, and that origin story, free-spirited, adventurous, deeply personal, is the brand’s most valuable asset. As the business matured and prepared to grow its e-commerce presence and retail footprint, the challenge was to sharpen that identity without sanitising it: keep the van, keep the energy, but make it shelf-ready.

Eye Candy Design undertook a branding refresh that preserved the iconic van graphic at the heart of the visual identity, while strengthening the integration of the business name and updating the green to a more vibrant, contemporary hue that better matched the brand’s personality. The refreshed identity then fed directly into packaging for the coffee pouches, including a playful “peekaboo” side design element that offers a glimpse of the beans inside, adding a moment of discovery that reinforces the brand’s sense of fun. The full scope also covered sales sheets, pitch decks, and website graphic assets. In keeping with the founders’ environmental values, the final pouch specification is fully compostable, and the single-serve pour-over format offers a more sustainable alternative to coffee pods.

The pour-over product was named a finalist at the Canadian Grand Prix New Product Award in 2022, recognising both the product innovation and the design work that communicated it.
