Throughout 2021, the limited edition of the bottle of La Pettegola Banfi will be enriched by the splendid illustrations of the famous Italian designer Elena Salmistraro. The artist has been able to give the design of La Pettegola an exquisitely feminine and vaguely wild touch, inserting some symbolic elements characteristic of her works.

An almost archetypal female figure dialogues with a “pettegola”, a little bird that lives in the woods of the Tuscan Maremma and which gives its name to this Vermentino wine from the Banfi wine company. The game of glances between the two protagonists of the illustration captures the attention of the observer, who remains fascinated by it.

Storytelling
Elena Salmistraro’s work has always been on the border between art and design. She has been working for years on her own language, which at times is in contrast with the world of more classic industrial design. When Banfi contacted her for the 2021 Limited Edition of La Pettegola, it was a novelty that she accepted with enthusiasm. The name of the wine was the guide for the creation of the design: in fact, “La Pettegola” means “The Gossiper”. It refers to the name of an “aquatic” bird, which Elena Salmistraro has redesigned, with an orange beak and a black tip. She then thought of an introverted girl, and of the encounter with a lively bird that tells her something. Elena Salmistraro wanted to visualize the gossip, which starts from the bird and reaches the girl’s ear. The label has been transformed into an animation that can be viewed through the Banfi Experience augmented reality app. The limited edition of the bottle was also combined with a music playlist on Spotify created by the artist, with songs about her childhood and her personal history, from the 70s and 80s.

Banfi and design: when the wine meets art
The pursuit of beauty has been linked with the history of Banfi since its foundation in 1978, when brothers John and Harry Mariani visited the lovely Montalcino estate for the first time and fell in love with the rolling Tuscan hills, its vineyards and the colors of its bunches. Today Banfi wines are full of charm and elegance as a promise of their unique bouquet and aromatic notes, so perfectly balanced like a work of art. Aesthetics has brought Banfi closer to design in a partnership that becomes stronger every year, thanks to collaborations with internationally renowned artists and designers, exhibitions and vernissages.

The wine: La Pettegola
La Pettegola is a pale yellow Vermentino. The aromas are fruity and very intense, with strong hints of citrus and yellow peach, but there are also floral and sage notes. The structure is full and the rich acidity gives freshness and length. The finish is very persistent and fruity.

What’s Unique?
Using the Banfi Experience App (free download on AppStore and GooglePlay) it is possible to literally give life to the label.

The user can enjoy a surprising experience of augmented reality just framing the label with a smartphone, in order to watch the two figures coming to to life. In the stunning animation, the bird starts chirping and the girl begins to move her head towards it. In the background, you can also hear the bells jingling in the wind.
