Max & Bella — Pet Food Packaging Design
Max & Bella is a US-based pet food brand focused on high-quality, natural products made with clearly identifiable ingredients. The main challenge of this project was to communicate the real quality of the product, its ingredients, transparency, and care, while avoiding a cold or overly technical aesthetic, and instead maintaining a playful and approachable tone connected to the animal world.
The Challenge
Many pet food brands rely on generic visual codes: overloaded labels, artificial imagery, or overly childish aesthetics that can undermine trust in the product itself. In this case, the challenge was to balance two key ideas:
on one hand, building credibility, clarity, and trust; on the other, preserving a warm, friendly, and playful identity that resonates with pets and their owners.
The Graphic Solution
The design approach places the product at the centre of the visual identity. Transparent packaging allows the contents to be clearly visible, reinforcing honesty and quality without visual distractions. A clear colour-coding system differentiates flavours and ingredients, creating a cohesive and easily recognisable product family.
Typography is bold and highly legible, with subtle expressive details that add character without compromising clarity. Information is carefully structured to highlight key elements, ingredients, benefits, and nutritional values, ensuring quick readability and a professional appearance.
Photography and art direction further support this concept. Clean compositions, neutral backgrounds, and natural lighting emphasise the product itself, while playful moments and animal interactions introduce warmth and personality, reinforcing the emotional connection between pets, owners, and food.
Result
The final system strikes a balance between premium quality and approachability, positioning Max & Bella as a trustworthy, contemporary pet food brand. The result is a flexible and scalable visual identity that stands out on shelf while remaining honest, friendly, and rooted in product quality.
