ABOUT
Don Ciccio & Figli are generational crafters of a range of Italian herbal liqueurs, from the bitter to the sweet. Based in Washington DC, the distillery recreates family recipes dating back to 1883. Traditional family recipes are being revived 3 generations later from the Amalfi Coast now in the USA. The distillery has become a mainstay in D.C. and has also developed a national reputation. So much so that Francesco Amodeo, the master distiller, is often approached to do a variety of collaborations. In addition, since alchemy is in his genes, he is often experimenting with global-inspired drinks that are as delicious as those revived family recipes that he is recreating. It was clear that a sub-brand was needed to provide the space for the brand to stretch beyond Italian spirits.
SOLUTION
Enter Eklectika, a new collection of limited edition liqueurs. Much like Don Ciccio & Figli’s collection of Italian herbal liqueurs, Eklectika displays a wide spectrum of flavors. Each new liqueur is created with the same craftsmanship, care, and reverence of the original family business, but with a more global inspiration — places, cultures and communities outside of Italy. Eklectika celebrates the notion that all are welcome, from flavor profiles and ingredients to ideas and people. The collection launched during Pride Month with Tutti Frutti, a colorful and glittery (yes, it includes edible glitter!) explosion of juicy, summery flavors. This was followed by Tepache, a centuries-old Mexican recipe.
We needed a design direction that allowed us to shout eclectic, but have the flexibility to expand across a series of different flavors that while all different, find harmony together. By making the product the hero and using “Eklektika by Don Ciccio & Figli” as the anchor, we placed emphasis on the flavor, which is supported by the design. The explosive fruit-based design allowed for adaptability in ingredients depending on the flavor and the crown gives a nod to one of the core design elements in the Don Ciccio & Figli logo mark.
RESULT
While the products have only been available for a short period of time (end of May 2022), Tutti Frutti is one of Don Ciccio & Figli’s 4th best-selling liqueurs online this year.
