BOOK DESIGN: “CỐ ĐỊNH MỘT ĐÁM MÂY” – “ANCHORED THE CLOUD”

1. Forewords:

The short story brings readers to experience many different stories, and many different destinies, but somewhere in their souls are glorious visions, people who always live through difficulties and rise up.

The concept of the short story I think about is the modern Vietnamese woman’s identity in contemporary literature, especially in Nguyễn Ngọc Tư literature career path. Nguyễn Ngọc Tư created her South Vietnamese senses with different mediums, which are majorities in symbols of nature, signs of society, and symbols of body and emotion in literature aspects; in addition, Nguyễn Ngọc Tư also give us tremendous women thoughts in modern days. Thereby, the short story shows the characteristics of the way of seeing and feeling the world, as well as the richness in women’s spiritual and physical life.

2. Creative Brief: 

Design a cover book that illustrates the “Cố định một đám mây – Anchored the cloud” mood following with author’s literature identity. There are illustrations for Book covers, Single pages, Facing pages, Page Breaks (Silent pages), Bookmarks, Phone cases, and Announcement Book Posters.

3. Art Direction:

The cover book will show the question to the audience: Could the cloud be anchored? // will show the modern women identity. Overall, the cover of the book shows the emotional elements throughout the collection of uncertainty images (cloudy, hazy, feel the pain gently).

The editorial design gives more negative spaces that the readers feel comfortable to read words and enjoy illustrations. Moreover, the summer flowers (Sò Đo) is the symbol of love and memories, Nguyễn Ngọc Tư gives the reader the feelings of lost with tragic mood. The woman is the bride in her weddings, she makes her decisions that run away with her motorbikes, feelings, her free life.

The flowers (Sò Đo) witnesses her journey, reminds her lover, evokes her inner voices.
