June 10 / Presidential Case / 100 Hectares / Douro – Portugal, Camões and Portuguese Communities Day. – the challenge to create a commemorative case, as part of the commemorations of 10th June, the day of Portugal, Camões and Portuguese communities, had as key elements the Portuguese flag, the Lusíadas, emblematic work of the poet Luis Vaz de Camões and the Portuguese communities around the world.

  1. Portugal the bottle, engraved at 360º, represents our flag with the central element, the shield, highlighted, with the surrounding lines that evoke the Douro and its terraces, as well as the horizontal lines where 2 dates are marked: -1143, date of the foundation of our country and celebration of the Treaty of Zamora, between D Afonso Henriques and Afonso VII of León and Castile, which recognizes the legal status of Portugal as an independent kingdom – 1880, date of the first reference to the festive character of the 10th of June by royal decree of D Luís.

I that declares “Day of National Celebration and Grand Gala” to commemorate only in that year the 300th anniversary of the hypothetical date of the death of Luís de Camões, June 10, 1580.
Portugal, Camões and Portuguese Communities Day.

  1. Portugal The horizontal lines on the bottle are, like those that support the bottle in the box, 23 thus marking the present year.

  2. Camões, June 10th is also the (supposed) date of the death of Luis Vaz de Camões naturally, it was also one of the references for this project. In this sense, the choice of a stanza from the Lusíadas, taken from Canto X, stanza 4, in which the nymphs offer a feast to the Portuguese…. – The odoriferous wines, which above They are not only from Italic Falernian But of Ambrosia, which Jove so esteems With all the everlasting gathering, In the vases, where the file works in vain, Curly scum rises, which in the interior Heart moves sudden joy, Jumping with the cold water mixture. – In this stanza, which gains prominence and is fully reproduced on the box, some of the words deserve to be understood what they mean for a better understanding of the project:

  3. Falerno – excellent wine from Campania

  4. Ambrosia – delicacy with which the gods on Olympus enjoyed themselves

  5. Jove – Jupiter

  6. Everlasting gathering – set of deities – The gold engraving on some words, in contrast to the varnish used on the others, allows a double reading, full of meaning. In the oak wood box, we have a structure inspired by a boat that allows the 5 liter bottle to rest, making the set refined and worthy of the occasion.

Only 3 copies of this kit were produced as a gift to the President of the Republic of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the Prime Minister, António Costa and the President of Cim Douro Carlos Silva
