ANADIA - LISBON

The pastel de nata is one of the most iconic expressions of Portuguese pastry. Originating in the 18th century at the Jerónimos Monastery in Lisbon, it evolved from a humble convent recipe into a culinary symbol recognized worldwide. Today, it is celebrated not only for its delicate custard and crisp pastry but also as a representation of Portuguese tradition, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage.

This project aimed to create packaging that communicates the cultural significance of the pastel de nata. The identity developed, Ouro de Portugal, positions the pastry as a luxury product, linking it to gold, a universally recognized symbol of value and excellence.

The box, finished in a metallic sheen, is designed to resemble a gold bar, evoking elegance and the golden, caramelized surface of the pastry. Its minimalist design conveys sophistication while keeping the product at the center of the experience. Every detail, from materials to finishes, was carefully chosen to communicate quality, authenticity, and refinement.

Designed to hold six pastéis de nata, the box becomes a cultural artifact and statement piece. It transforms the pastry from a culinary delight into a high-value gift, projecting symbolic and emotional significance. Through Ouro de Portugal, the pastel de nata is presented not only as a dessert but as an emblem of Portuguese excellence, ready to be appreciated and shared worldwide.
