Hourglass Cosmetics is a leader in the prestige beauty market, renowned for its cruelty-free luxury beauty credentials and highly sought-after products, that are art forms in themselves.
In parallel with developing a new cosmetics counter design for Selfridges that reflected Hourglass’s innovative design ethos, Checkland Kindleysides were challenged with creating a bespoke gifting experience unique to this iconic space. Collaborating closely with the brand’s passionate and visionary founder, Carisa Jane, and their in-house Artistry Team; they co-designed a gift-with-purchase packaging concept that epitomizes the brand’s commitment to artful simplicity and cruelty-free luxury.
Checkland Kindleysides’ concept envisaged a ‘Pandora’s box’ of customisable elements, inclusive of a choice of stationery items, from envelope through to cards, stickers and ribbons – where the beauty lies in every detail. This was meticulously encased in a consistent and sophisticated Hourglass brand image, inspired by the cantilevered contours and personalised service elements of our new retail design concept. A truly bespoke packaging design system that is both understated yet meaningful, delivering an elevated service and unboxing experience that is as luxurious and artistic as the products themselves.
The result is a highly-considered, beauty gifting experience that delighted customers and inspired Hourglass to task Checkland Kindleysides with translating this into a new direction for their global packaging design.
